Why the same number can mean different things in different units
Units are just agreed rulers, but the world never agreed on one set. A recipe written in cups, a speed limit in miles, a weather forecast in Fahrenheit — each makes sense where it was written and confuses everyone elsewhere. Converting well is more than swapping numbers: temperature scales start at different points, and digital storage uses two rival definitions of a gigabyte. Knowing which system you are in, and what the result should roughly look like, stops small mix-ups from becoming expensive ones.
What to do, step by step
- Pick the right tab above — length, weight, temperature, or data — so the units you need appear.
- Type your amount, then choose the unit you have and the unit you want; the answer appears instantly.
- Use the swap button to reverse the conversion and check the result takes you back to your starting number.
- Sanity-check the size: a kilogram is a little over two pounds, and a mile is longer than a kilometre.
- For temperature, remember the scales are offset, not just scaled — doubling Celsius does not double Fahrenheit.

How many cm in an inch?
Exactly 2.54 cm per inch. So a 6-foot person is 182.88 cm tall.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Is a GB 1000 or 1024 MB?
For storage, manufacturers use 1000; computers traditionally use 1024. This converter uses 1024, the way your operating system reports it.
