Why are Chinese car companies building robots instead of cars?

They are not necessarily abandoning cars: EV makers already own many ingredients a robot needs—batteries, motors, power electronics, sensors, manufacturing, and AI software. Building humanoids can reuse that stack and open a second market, while licensing vehicle technology can spread development costs across more brands. The risk is distraction, so watch for real deployments, paying customers, and reliability data rather than polished stage demonstrations.
