What is Claude Personal Finance, and should you link your bank account to an AI?

By Adam Neely · Nov 6, 2026
Quick answer: Anthropic’s Claude Personal Finance, now in US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers, connects bank and card accounts read-only through Plaid so Claude can answer plain-language spending questions. It cannot move money — but read-only still means it can see a lot. Here is what read-only really means, the privacy trade-off, and how to check or remove the connection in your bank settings.

“Where did my money go this month?” Most banking apps answer with a confusing chart. Anthropic wants you to just ask. Short answer: Claude Personal Finance is a new Anthropic feature, now in beta in the United States for Claude Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers, that connects your bank and card accounts to Claude through Plaid — the same connection service many finance apps use — so you can ask plain-language questions about your own spending.

The connection is read-only: Claude can look at balances and transactions, but it cannot move money, pay bills, or change anything in your accounts. Why it matters: Read-only limits the damage if anything goes wrong — there is no button, visible or hidden, that sends your money anywhere. But read-only is not no-risk: the AI still gets to see where you shop, eat, travel, and donate — a detailed picture of your life, traded for convenience.Decide safely, step by step:1. Know exactly what read-only means: viewing balances and transaction history only.

No transfers, no payments, no withdrawals, no setting changes. If any tool ever asks for more than that, stop.2. Connect through Plaid, never by typing your bank password into a chat: the sign-in should happen on Plaid’s or your bank’s own screen.

A chat box asking for your banking password is a red flag, full stop.3. Start with one account: link a single everyday card first, ask it a few questions, and see whether the answers are actually useful before adding anything else.4. Find the connection in your bank’s own settings: most banks list linked services under Security, Privacy, or “connected apps” — that list is the ground truth for what has access.5.

Know how to disconnect before you connect: you can remove access from inside Claude’s settings and from your bank’s connected-apps page. Removing it at the bank cuts access even if you later delete the app.Common mistake: linking every account at once because the setup screen makes it easy. Each added account widens what the AI can see without making its answers any better.Ad’s take: I like the read-only design — it is the right safety line.

Treat the connection like handing someone your statements to read: only for as long as it keeps earning that trust.
