How can a free beta setting make your PC games run faster on an RTX 40 or 50 card — and when should you skip it?
NVIDIA's beta Preset C speeds up DLSS Frame Generation by up to 35% on an RTX 5060 in NVIDIA's testing, trading a little image quality for smoother fast games on RTX 40- and 50-series cards. Here is how to turn it on — and when to skip it.
Your game is almost smooth — just choppy enough in the big fights to drive you nuts, and a new graphics card is not in the budget. Short answer: NVIDIA’s new Preset C can help. It is a beta Performance Mode for DLSS Frame Generation in the NVIDIA App beta, and NVIDIA says it can speed up frame generation by up to 35% on an RTX 5060, with a minor trade-off in image quality.
It works on RTX 40- and RTX 50-series cards and RTX Spark laptops, with Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. In the example NVIDIA cited, one test jumped from 255 to 348 FPS at 6x — a test result, not a promise for every game. Why it is faster: Frame Generation uses two AI models to build each in-between frame.
Preset C replaces the second model — the one handling optical flow for the interface and ray-traced effects — with a lighter, quicker algorithm, so your card spends less time making every generated frame.1. Opt in to the beta. Update the NVIDIA App, open Settings > About, turn on beta and experimental features, and install the beta when prompted.2.
Pick your game. Open Graphics and choose a supported game — or Global Settings to apply it broadly.3. Find the override.
Scroll to Driver Settings > DLSS Override – Model Presets and choose Custom.4. Select Preset C. Under Frame Generation, pick Preset C and hit Apply.
If it does not appear, reboot and check again.5. Play and compare. Watch UI edges and fast motion for shimmer or softness before you decide it is a keeper.Pro tip: If you mostly play slow, pretty, story-driven games, stay on the quality preset.
Preset C is for chasing smoothness in fast games, not for admiring screenshots.Ad’s take: Free frames are my favorite kind of upgrade — no new card, no credit card. Try it in one game, and keep it only if your eyes actually like it.
