Did your Pixel 6 or Windows PC just stop getting security updates — and what should you do now?

Quick answer: Windows 11 version 24H2 reached end of support on October 13, 2026, and the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro just got their final update. Both devices still work — here is how to check yours and what to do next.

Windows 11 version 24H2 reached end of support on October 13, 2026, and the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro just got their final update. Both devices still work — here is how to check yours and what to do next.

Your PC still boots up fine and your Pixel still takes great photos, so nothing feels broken — but this week, the security updates quietly stopped. Short answer: Two big support endings landed at once. Windows 11 version 24H2 (Home and Pro) reached the end of support on October 13, 2026, and the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro received their final update with the October 2026 patch, closing out five years of security updates.

That does not mean either device stops working — both will keep running just as they do today. What changes is the safety net: any security flaw discovered from now on will never be patched on them, so the risk slowly grows the longer you keep using them, especially for banking, email, and work.1. Check your Windows version.

Type winver and press Enter, or open Settings > System > About. If it says version 24H2, your PC is one of the machines that lost support.2. Update Windows if a newer version is offered.

Back up your important files first. Then open Settings > Windows Update, turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available,” click Check for updates, and install the supported version you are offered, such as 25H2 or 26H2.3. Check your Pixel.

Open Settings > About phone > Android version and note the security update date. If the October update is waiting, install it — it is the last one this phone will receive.4. Set a replacement timeline, not a panic.

If the Pixel 6 is your main phone for banking and work, plan its replacement calmly. Newer Pixels carry seven years of updates, so your next phone should carry you much longer.5. Stay careful until then.

Keep your apps updated, use two-factor authentication on important accounts, and avoid installing apps from outside the official store.Pro tip: “Up to date” does not always mean protected. Compare the patch date itself — a phone can happily say it is fully updated while sitting on an old, final patch.Ad’s take: I hate retiring gadgets that still work, and nothing here needs an emergency purchase this weekend. Just do not pretend the clock is not ticking — plan the upgrade on your schedule, not a scammer’s.
