How do you control what Siri AI can read after updating to iOS 27.2?

By Adam Neely · Oct 27, 2026
Quick answer: iOS 27.2 lets Siri AI recall past conversations and read Messages photos, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and Safari history. The new Excluded Apps setting lets you choose, in one place, which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions may access. Five steps, plus the new $699 iPad mini details.

You updated your iPhone, and now Siri remembers things — including things you may not want it reading. Short answer: iOS 27.2, released October 26, 2026, gives Siri AI a memory for past conversations and lets it draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and your Safari history and Reading List. The good news is a new setting, Excluded Apps, puts you back in charge: it is the one place where you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions may access.

Why it matters: an assistant that can connect your messages, photos, and calendar is genuinely useful — and genuinely personal. Siri AI also adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, and you can now select and copy just part of a Siri answer instead of the whole thing. It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 or later; on iPad it needs an M1 chip or later, or the iPad mini with A17 Pro or the new model.

It is still a beta, and it is not available in the EU or mainland China.1. Update first: open Settings, then General, then Software Update, and install iOS 27.2.2. Find the new control: open Settings and use the search bar at the top to find Excluded Apps.3.

Turn off every app you do not want read — banking, health, private messages, or work apps are the usual first choices.4. Test the boundary: ask Siri a harmless question that touches an app you left on, then one that touches an app you excluded, and confirm it cannot use the excluded one.5. Repeat the same check on your iPad after updating to iPadOS 27.2.Pro tip: the privacy check is free and takes two minutes.

The spending decision is separate — Apple also announced a new iPad mini the same day, with an 8.5-inch OLED screen and an A20 Pro chip at $699, with pre-orders on October 28 and sales starting November 6.Ad’s take: turn the memory on where it helps and off where it does not. That one settings page is the whole ballgame.
