Should you wait for a 2nm Snapdragon Android phone?

Quick answer: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips promise faster CPUs, graphics, and on-device AI, but the early benchmark gains come from reference phones rather than retail devices.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips promise faster CPUs, graphics, and on-device AI, but the early benchmark gains come from reference phones rather than retail devices.

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 on September 22. They are the first mobile chips built on a 2-nanometer process, with custom Oryon CPUs reaching 5 GHz and a redesigned NPU for more context-aware AI on the phone. Qualcomm’s reference-device tests show roughly 30–40% gains across CPU and graphics benchmarks compared with Gen 5, but those are not retail phones; battery life and sustained heat still need independent testing.

Xiaomi’s 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected first, followed by devices from Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola, and ZTE. If you are buying soon, wait for reviews of the exact phone instead of preordering from benchmark slides.
