How can Truecaller's new web tool help you dodge scam calls?

By Adam Neely · Sep 28, 2026 · 5 min
Quick answer: Truecaller's browser lookup checks an unfamiliar number against fraud reports, but caller ID can still be spoofed. Verify banks and agencies using an official number you find yourself.

Truecaller's Scam Checker brings its fraud reports to a browser, so you can look up an unfamiliar number without installing the caller-ID app. It is a useful clue, not proof: caller ID can be spoofed and a number that has not been reported can still be dangerous. If someone claims to represent a bank, government office, or delivery company, hang up and call the official number from the organization's own site or your card.

Your carrier may also provide free spam filtering, while DoNotCall.gov can reduce legitimate telemarketing calls but will not stop criminals.
