How can I tell if a song on YouTube Music was made with AI?
YouTube Music now labels every track right under its name on the player page: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI. Tap the label to open a 'How this was made' panel covering composition and vocals. There is currently no setting to hide or filter AI-labelled songs.
A catchy new song lands in your playlist and it sounds a little too perfect — so who, or what, actually made it? Short answer: YouTube Music now tells you. In an announcement on October 14, 2026, YouTube said the player page now shows a label right under the track name saying whether AI helped make the song.
There are three labels. “Fully Gen AI” means the track was entirely AI-generated. “Partly Gen AI” means AI elements are mixed in with human performance.
“No Gen AI” means no generative AI was used — and ordinary tools like Auto-Tune still count as No Gen AI. YouTube identifies tracks using declarations supplied by record labels and distributors, backed up by its own detection tools, and says the labels will expand to the main YouTube app as well.1. Play the track and look under its name.
The label sits on the player page, directly beneath the song title — no digging through menus.2. Tap the label for the full story. A “How this was made” panel opens and explains whether AI created the composition, the vocals, or both.3.
Know what the label cannot do. Honest fine print: there is currently no setting to hide or filter out AI-labelled tracks, and a label by itself does not change whether a track can earn money.4. Shape your recommendations separately.
Use thumbs-down or “Not interested” on recommendations you do not want more of — just know that is a preference signal to the algorithm, not a filter.Pro tip: If a song's origin matters to you — say you are building a shared playlist, or one for the kids — check the label before you add the song, not after.Ad’s take: I like knowing whether a person or a program made the song I'm humming along to. Labels beat guessing every time — now YouTube just needs to give us the filter to go with them.
